Some weekends end with the strange feeling that you need another weekend to recover. Every free hour had a job: errands, plans, catching up, getting ahead. There is a different kind of pleasure in leaving part of a day unassigned.
You can invite someone over without producing an event. Say what you are making. Let them bring something if they ask. Use the plates you have. A comfortable afternoon usually depends more on how welcome people feel than on whether the table looks like a photograph.
Pick music you can talk over. Cook something familiar enough that you do not spend the entire visit reading instructions. If the weather works, move a chair outside. If it does not, open a window and let the afternoon be what it is.
A slow Sunday can also be a solo one. Read a few pages, phone someone you miss or make a meal worth sitting down for. Rest does not have to be photogenic to count. The day can be good even if there is nothing to post.
